Climate
In Chianti Classico, the 2023 climate season began
with an averagely cold and dry winter, particularly
in the final part of March, favoring bud break
in line with historical averages. From the end of April, the
cool and rainy weather, which continued until the second ten days of
June, required special attention to vineyard management
to achieve an excellent balance of vegetative growth and
productive development, ensuring sparse clusters and
small berries. The summer was generally hot
and dry, without extreme heat spikes. In August, moderate
rains favored a drop in temperatures,
allowing the grapes to optimally initiate and complete
the ripening process. September and October proceeded
regularly, guaranteeing the production of grapes with great
potential. The harvest began with the Sangiovese in the
second half of September and concluded in the second week of October with the other complementary varieties.
Vinification
After being destemmed and gently pressed, the grapes were transferred to stainless steel tanks where
alcoholic fermentation took place at a controlled temperature of 28-30°C. Maceration lasted
approximately 10-14 days, during which mechanical interventions were performed to control the extraction of
aromas, structure, and sweet tannins. After malolactic fermentation, which took place in stainless steel tanks for the
Sangiovese and in second- and third-use barriques for some batches of the other varieties, the wines were blended and
continued to age in wood, primarily in large barrels and partly in barriques, until the end of
spring 2025. Bottling began in July 2025.
Historical Data
Villa Antinori is first and foremost an idea, a way of conceiving winemaking: as experimentation and
evolution on the one hand, and as historical value on the other. Sangiovese and other complementary varieties pay homage
to a historic label and a wine with a long tradition: this name, in fact, has almost a hundred years of history, and was
produced for the first time with the 1928 vintage. With the inauguration of the Antinori winery in Chianti
Classico, the family wanted to reinterpret a Tuscan classic through a delicate yet
decisive and elegant Riserva.
Tasting Notes
Villa Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva 2023 is ruby red in color. On the nose, notes of morello cherry and
candied orange blend with sweet hints of vanilla and icing sugar, giving way to floral notes of
rose petals and mallow; the bouquet is completed by a complex spicy-sweet contour of licorice, cedar wood, and
caramel. On the palate, the rich and enveloping entry unfolds into a balanced sip; The sweet, savory, and silky tannins
accompany a long, energetic finish, from which pleasant woody tones emerge.
The Antinori family has been committed to the art of winemaking for over six centuries since 1385 when Giovanni di Piero Antinori became a member, of the “Arte Fiorentina dei Vinattieri”, the Florentine Winemakers’ Guild.
